Breaking news! We got Cho’gall down again (2nd time) this week! Amazingly enough, a group of ogres came and shoved us out of the way when we went to take our screenshot! The nerve! Anyway, it was pretty exciting and a very close call on this one (we were sure it was going to end at like 100k as it has over and over). Additionally we got Heroic Halfus down for the second time the night before.
From Halfus, I got the Heroic version of the Gloves I had been wearing. I’m still confused as to what the best enchantment is for an SV Hunter for those. When we downed Cho’gall he dropped the Mail Belt which I got (nobody else wants that crap ) although I am not sure I am going to use it over the one I already had. What was even better is the shoulder token dropped. Of course, I lost the roll. But our Shaman is such awesomesauce that he gave them to me anyway. I did have blue shoulders… I really, really appreciated that. It was really cool of him to do.
So, I got my new shoulders but didn’t put them on (since they needed enchantment and a gem) so imagine my surprise when I put them on and it looks like I’m toting around a bunch of green snowglobes! Anyway, that’s about all I got. We gave a few tries on Al’Akir but, while we got him to 27%, we couldn’t get any lower. I’m getting the hang of handling the stacks of debuff in the second phase and we’re getting pretty consistent just getting to the second phase at all. I think next week we might finally get him down too. Then we will only have Nef to go!
A decision was made yesterday before our raid that we would start with Heroic Halfus tonight (this being Wed. night, our BoT night). We do 10man btw. We’re now 10/12 in non-heroics with our Cho’Gall victory last week. After that decision, we proceeded into Descent. I’m pretty sure we one-shot everything except we were going for the achievement on the Trons and so kept resetting them if Arcano got the bolt off (the only one most of us need). So, we slammed through the raid instance pretty quickly and I still can’t believe we one-shot that blind dragon dude (yeah, I could go look up his name.. It’s like Atramedes or something, right?). We lost one of our healers really quick in that fight, but got him down amazingly fast anyway.
Finishing up and still having at least 30 minutes left (if not 45 to an hour if we pushed) we made the additional decision to give Heroic Halfus a try NOW! I was scared.
I don’t know how many of you have been to see Halfus at all, but in normal mode, only 3 of his drakes are “awake” each week (this includes the whelps as a single “drake”). In Heroic, ALL of them are awake all the time. I have to say I am glad I am not a healer. Having to deal with the sheer crazy amounts of damage being put out is nuts. We went in there and wiped quite a few times getting the hang of things and… We didn’t get him down. I’m pretty sure we expected exactly what happened which is get some practice in and maybe come back tonight and finish it.
We could definitely see how it is “doable”. I can’t say I saw that when we first headed in to handle Halfus in non-heroic mode. I assume that it’s because, although it is heroic and there are differences, it is essentially the same fight as before. Drakes, Interrupts, AOE, Don’t Stand In Fire, etc. It’s just all the mechanics from each week at the same time. Seems that knowing even the basic mechanics of a fight even if it has been modified in Heroic mode gives you an advantage.
In related news.. Wait, no it isn’t.. My priest is ALMOST 85.. I think he has about 2 million more XP to make it (wow. that sounds like a lot until you compare it to the 9 million he needed when he hit 84). I’ve been enjoying leveling him but I have to say that it is annoying how often he goes Out of Mana..
Well, that’s about it for me today. Have a good one!
Wow. There hasn’t been a lot going on in my WoW life recently other than raiding. I haven’t been doing much in the way of leveling, although my priest is getting close to 85 now (6 million to go.. ugh..) and well, that’s about it. I don’t even tend to farm anymore because I have enough gold to just purchase flasks and food when I need them now. Oh, that reminds me that I need to pick up some more food before tomorrow’s raid!
Oh yeah, the title.. That’s really why you are here, right? Yeah, we finally got Cho’Gall down! No, not heroic. We’re still doing non-heroics. You know what? I really don’t care that we aren’t at heroics yet. We raid generally 3 nights a week for about 2 1/2 hours give or take. With this kill, we finally have “finished” one of the Raid Instances. No, nothing dropped for me.
I have to say that fight was a big pain. We couldn’t even reliably get him to the final phase either. Prior to getting him down, I think our best shot was 8% which isn’t too shabby either. The biggest issue we have in the first phase, of course, is the little slimy adds. The first 5 are easy but then it gets progressively more difficult when you get to 10 and then 15. We just push to get him to the next phase before group 4 comes out.
I’m sure we’ll go back there again this week, but I ‘ve noticed that once we’ve gotten a boss down, the second and further times go better. Of course, that stupid blind dragon seems to be the exception to the rule on that one.
EDIT: Oh, and as of the beginning of March, ‘this’ blog is 4 years old!!!
